Insulated conservatory roof replacement, fitted on one dry day
We lift off the polycarbonate or glass, keep the frame you have, and fit a 75 mm insulated panel roof with a plain white ceiling underneath. Most roofs go on between 8am and 4pm on a single dry day, and we have counted those days for 100 towns: the average one gets 263 a year.

We counted two years of rain, town by town
1,754,400 hourly readings from the Met Office 2 km model, for 100 towns from Penzance to Morpeth. Two numbers came out of it. Dry working days, the days a roof can come off and go back on: 263 a year in the average town. Noise nights, an hour of moderate rain between 11pm and 7am, when a lightweight roof is at its loudest: 65 a year, and 92 in Kendal.

Guide prices, by style and size
Fitted, with the old roof taken off and away. The style nudges the price because of how the panels meet at the top; the free survey fixes it in writing. What is included and what costs extra.
One dry day, hour by hour
Most roofs take one day; big or fiddly ones take two, with the open part covered overnight. The fitting process in full.
- The week beforeWe watch the forecast and confirm the day once it looks dry from 8am to 4pm.
- 8amFloor sheeted, room cleared, gutters checked, first section of old roof off.
- 9am to noonBars checked and made good, panels cut to the survey sizes go on section by section.

- 4pmSwept, walked round with you, old sheets on the van for recycling.
How loud is rain on your roof now?
In the standard lab downpour, 25 mm polycarbonate measures 64.6 dB and double glazed roof glass 52.0 dB: a gap of 12.6 dB, and a rise of 10 dB is usually heard as about twice as loud. Our ledger counts 480 hours of moderate rain and 26 of heavy rain on the average town each year.
Nobody has published the same lab test for aluminium panel roofs, and we have not tested ours, so you will not find a panel number on this site. What is measured, with every source.

Your roof style

What people ask first
Why does the weather matter so much?
Because for a few hours the roof is open and every joint is sealed on site, and sealant wants a dry surface. We book a day the forecast says is dry from 8am to 4pm, and move it, free, if the forecast turns.
How many dry days are there in a year?
In our ledger the average town gets 263 dry working days a year, and even the wettest month averages about 19. A dry day turns up in almost every week.
Is a panel roof quieter in the rain?
Polycarbonate measures 64.6 dB in lab heavy rain and double glazed glass 52.0 dB. Nobody has published the same test for aluminium panel roofs and we have not tested ours, so we will not give you a number. What is measured, and what is not.
Do you keep my conservatory frame?
Yes, when it is sound, and most are. At the survey we test the bars, the dwarf wall and the frame for movement or rot before a price goes on paper.
What does it cost?
A small roof is guided from £3,000, a medium one from £4,000 and a large one from £5,000, fitted, with the old roof taken away. The survey is free and the price is fixed in writing.
How warm is the new roof?
The 75 mm panel has a U-value of about 0.43 W/m²K, against roughly 1.6 to 2.4 for old polycarbonate. The walls are still glass, so it is a warmer conservatory, not a brick extension.
